Towards absolute localization with SAR imaging

Spaceborne SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) is known for its ability to provide weather and time of day independent observation of the earth’s surface and measurement of relative shifts based on the carrier phase (SAR interferometry). TerraSAR-X, a radar Earth observation satellite, is a joint venture being carried out under a public-private-partnership between the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and EADS Astrium. The new Staring SpotLight Mode offers TerraSAR-X imagery with up to 25cm resolution. Given that, our research objective is: To enable high-accuracy geocoding for object details meaningful for and defined by the human on ground Transfer the relatively high orbit accuracy to the estimated locations of imaged objects Simulate SAR image for large man made objects for precise comparison and understanding.

Current State

Following taks have been accomplished to date:

- Trihederal Corner Reflector Construction
- CR Installation Potsdam
- CST Model Simulated
- TerraSAR-X Image Acquired


( December 2018) Completed doctoral studies with thesis titled
“Precise 3-D localization and simulation of topographic objects in the synthetic aperture radar images”
